The Alliance Hosts Press Call Highlighting AI Safety Developments and Previewing Upcoming Washington, DC Events |

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, The Alliance for Secure AI hosted a virtual press conference to highlight major developments in artificial intelligence safety over the past week, discuss the rapidly changing political and legislative landscape, and preview several AI safety-focused events taking place in Washington, DC this week.
“People have been warning about the potential downsides, the risks—to everything from jobs to education to mental health, cybersecurity, or even the loss of control, and yes, human extinction,” said Alliance CEO Brendan Steinhauser in his opening remarks. “This conversation goes back to Alan Turing, one of, if not the godfather of artificial intelligence in the 1950s, talking about these risks. Stephen Hawking, one of the most renowned physicists of the second half of the 20th century, talking about how we could lose control of the machines.
And of course, everyone from Sam Altman, to Dario Amodei, to Demis Hassabis, to Elon Musk, to even David Sacks, have all made public comments talking about how we could lose control of AI, it could go rogue, it could cause a lot of bad things—so this is not a new conversation. It’s just now at a fever pitch because everybody’s paying attention to something that a lot of us have been talking about for a while.”

This event aims to define a shared vision and articulate a better, more human-centric path for AI development. Screening of The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist followed by a Panel Conversation on Artificial Intelligence Wednesday, September 16, 2026 6 PM – 9 PM The U.S. Capitol Visitor Center – South Orientation Theater (CVC 241) Join Rep. Ted Lieu, The Alliance for Secure AI, and the AI Policy Network for an educational evening examining the rapid development of artificial intelligence and the choices it presents for Congress.
​The program will feature The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist, a documentary from the award-winning producers of Everything Everywhere All At Once and Navalny that explores the race to develop increasingly powerful AI systems through conversations with leading developers, researchers, policymakers, and critics.
​Before the presentation, AI researchers, technologists, and other experts will join a moderated conversation and Q&A for Members of Congress about the opportunities and risks ahead and the policy questions Congress is confronting as increasingly capable AI systems are developed and deployed.

Virtual Convening: Creatives for Secure AI Thursday, September 17, 2026 1 PM – 2PM ​Creatives for Secure AI is a new coalition bringing together creative professionals and independent creators across industries—including actors, authors, voice actors, filmmakers, graphic designers, animators, musicians, below-the-line crew, and more.
​For our first virtual convening, we’ll focus on copyright protections and digital cloning: what it means for creative professionals when AI can replicate a person’s voice, image, or likeness without meaningful consent, and what protections are needed as the technology becomes more powerful and accessible.
​We’ll also discuss current efforts to establish safeguards, including the NO FAKES Act, as well as the broader goals of Creatives for Secure AI and ways to get involved.
