As advanced AI rapidly develops, the Alliance will inform the American people on what this technology means for humanity’s future
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, The Alliance for Secure AI officially launched to ensure that security is at the forefront of discussions about advanced AI. Many experts believe that the companies developing advanced AI will create artificial general intelligence (AGI) within the next two to five years, and this will transform society in countless ways.
The Alliance for Secure AI is committed to ensuring that everyday Americans, policymakers, and the media are aware of the risks that come with AGI. The Alliance will also educate key audiences about what safeguards policymakers can put in place to mitigate such risks.
“Advanced AI is coming sooner than most people realize, and we are woefully unprepared for its profound impact on our world. AGI will bring tremendous benefits to society, but we must also consider the serious risks posed by this unprecedented technology,” said Brendan Steinhauser, CEO of The Alliance for Secure AI.
“The Alliance is here to encourage an urgent conversation about the potentially catastrophic risks posed by AGI. We will reach everyone — no matter their political affiliation or background — to shape the conversation about advanced AI’s effects on jobs, national security, geopolitics, ethics, and much more.
“In Washington, policymakers still haven’t grasped that AI isn’t just another commercial technology—it’s a strategic capability with profound national security implications,” said Mark Beall, former Director of AI Policy at the Pentagon.
“The Alliance for Secure AI is stepping into this critical void, cutting through industry spin and helping leaders finally confront the urgency and scale of the challenges ahead,” added Beall, now a senior advisor at The AI Policy Network.
The Alliance for Secure AI is a new 501(c)(3) nonprofit that will inform the public on issues related to AI security – including national security, frontier lab security, and international security.
The group will support safeguards that ensure that the United States remains the leader in AI innovation while protecting humanity from advanced AI’s potential catastrophic risks.
