Following Florida Speaker of the House Daniel Perez’s announcement that the Florida House of Representatives will not be taking up Gov. Ron DeSantis’ AI Bill of Rights during this week’s special session, Brendan Steinhauser, CEO of The Alliance for Secure AI, released the following statement:
“It is disappointing that, as we continue to see AI wreak havoc on the lives of Florida’s youth, Speaker Perez would refuse to put Gov. DeSantis’ AI Bill of Rights – legislation that would protect children from being victims of deepfakes, put parents in control over their kids’ use of AI, and more – on the floor. Speaker Perez is caving to Big Tech pressure instead of standing up for his constituents.
Tech companies will continue to coerce legislators across the country to stop legislating on AI so that they can get exactly what they want: free reign to develop advanced AI without guardrails. The Alliance for Secure AI calls on state legislators to continue putting forward legislation that will protect their residents, and we strongly encourage Speaker Perez to change his position on the AI Bill of Rights to prioritize protecting Florida families.”
