Today, OpenAI released a report demonstrating how America’s adversaries, including the Chinese Communist Party, are using tools such as ChatGPT to execute hacks, surveillance efforts, and more.
The report comes as the Trump administration creates its approach to deployment of the country’s AI technology abroad, including cutting a deal with Nvidia to allow the company to export chips to China. On the BG2 podcast, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that the “China hawk” label was a “badge of shame.”
“This new report from OpenAI is alarming and should spur our leaders into action to ensure that advanced AI remains in democratic hands. As Big Tech CEOs wait eagerly for the chance to ship their chips to our adversaries, this report is proof that we must do more to shore up the security of our data and technology,” said Brendan Steinhauser, CEO of the Alliance for Secure AI. “We must do everything we can to guarantee that future AI systems do not hold authoritarian values, but pro-liberty American ones, by barring our enemies from having access to our advanced technology. Being tough on the CCP in the race toward advanced AI is a symbol of patriotism.”
Earlier this year, The Wall Street Journal reported that China and Iran have been using American AI products to execute cyberattacks. Concern about Chinese access to American AI technology is reportedly holding up the Trump administration’s chip deal with the UAE.
