New Poll Shows 81% of Voters Support AI Safety Candidates
Polling from The Alliance for Secure AI and YouGov Shows Americans Favor Candidates Who Support AI Safeguards
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, The Alliance for Secure AI released polling conducted in partnership with YouGov showing that American voters of both parties overwhelmingly support political candidates who favor AI safeguards.
“The Alliance for Secure AI and YouGov’s new polling shows that 81% of voters support candidates who favor AI safeguards,” said Alliance CEO Brendan Steinhauser. “This confirms what we’ve been saying for the past year: as voters go to the polls today, AI safety is on their minds, and they overwhelmingly prefer candidates who are for safeguards on AI.”
The poll shows 82% of Democrats, 81% of Republicans, and 64% of Independents strongly support or somewhat support political candidates who are in favor of AI safeguards. Additionally, the polling reveals that voters believe neither political party is leading on protecting Americans from the risks of AI. When asked who they believe has a better plan to protect Americans from AI threats, 32% of voters said the Democratic Party, 29% said the Republican Party, and 34% of respondents believe neither party has a better plan on AI.
“Our polling also shows that AI voters are up for grabs: neither party is seen as having a better plan to protect Americans from AI risks,” said Steinhauser. “AI has quickly become a top issue in this election, and will only become more salient as we approach the 2028 presidential election. From here on out, every candidate from both parties will need to be an AI safety candidate if they want to win in 2028.”

The poll, conducted by YouGov from October 27 to November 3, 2026 surveyed 1,015 registered voters with a margin of error of ±3.8%. The poll results can be found here.
