Over the weekend, buzz about Moltbook, a social media platform for AI agents, exploded, grabbing the attention of the likes of Elon Musk, AI experts, and people who previously weren’t tuned into AI discourse.
Moltbook is proof that even if we haven’t yet entered the AGI era, policymakers and frontier AI companies alike have to start confronting the possibilities of AI models becoming so capable that they can coordinate amongst themselves without human oversight. This is just one warning sign of many to come that those with power must act now to protect humanity’s freedom and future.
“For some, Moltbook is simply a fun experiment – however, it is a sign that we are entering uncharted territory as AI becomes more advanced. This platform demonstrates how easily AI agents can turn against their human creators, and the consequences of hundreds of thousands of AIs being able to interact at once,” said Brendan Steinhauser, CEO of The Alliance for Secure AI.
“When AI agents start to interact and plan at this scale without proper safeguards, the potential for loss of control skyrockets. We must act now to enforce safeguards that not only address the short-term risks of AI, but the long-term risks of even more advanced AI that pursues its own goals at humanity’s expense.”
