Following the White House executive order directing AI developers to voluntarily provide the federal government with early access to advanced AI models, Brendan Steinhauser, CEO of The Alliance for Secure AI, released the following statement:
“After the national security wake-up call from advanced AI models like Mythos, we are pleased to see that the Trump administration is taking the risks of these models seriously. However, we know that Big Tech will still try to cut corners on safety and security. The next AI models will be even more powerful and will pose even bigger threats to our country than Mythos. These companies need oversight and cannot be trusted to do the right thing voluntarily.
“Congress must now codify the White House’s EO with legislative action. Lawmakers need to create a legal framework that makes federal government review of advanced AI models mandatory. We need to fully fund CAISI and other agencies so that they can protect the American people from advanced AI’s threats to our nation. We are glad to see this move toward AI safety and security from the White House. Now, Congress must act.”
