As OpenAI Takes Steps to Slow AI Race, The Alliance Calls on Anthropic, DeepMind, and XAI to Follow

Following OpenAI’s announcement that it will slow down development of its most advanced AI systems, Brendan Steinhauser, CEO of The Alliance for Secure AI, released the following statement:

“OpenAI is doing the responsible thing by slowing down. When the companies building the most powerful AI systems in the world are warning that these systems are becoming harder to understand and control, we should listen.

“But one company slowing down is not enough. Anthropic, DeepMind, XAI, and the other frontier AI developers around the world should follow OpenAI’s lead, and these commitments need to be enforceable.

We cannot have a system where one company acting responsibly goes it alone, while everyone else keeps racing ahead. Real safeguards mean making sure everyone plays by the same rules,” said Brendan Steinhauser, CEO of The Alliance for Secure AI.
