Americans Demand AI Safeguards

February 27, 2026

Americans are standing up for AI safeguards. Recent protests and pushback nationwide are clear indicators that the public does not trust Big Tech. From my vantage point, one thing is certain: Americans are concerned about AI without safeguards.

The mass movement for secure AI has arrived, and it is incredibly powerful, bipartisan, and diverse. State lawmakers, artists, labor groups, pastors, parents, and local political activists are all pushing back. Politicians should heed the voices of their constituents, or they will pay a political price at the ballot box.

Massive job losses, AI-induced psychosis, online harms to children, and loss of control are serious concerns for all Americans. This is the moment for policymakers to get it right – and put safeguards on advanced AI. –Brendan Steinhauser, CEO, The Alliance for Secure AI

Steinhauser highlighted AI’s potential impact on the upcoming midterm elections.

“Politicians who choose to do the bidding of Big Tech at the expense of hardworking Americans will pay a huge political price,” Steinhauser told Time Magazine.

Is anyone’s job truly safe from AI? AI’s capabilities are accelerating at breakneck speed. From warnings that white-collar work could be automated within a few years, to concerns about rapidly self-improving frontier models, thought leaders are consistently discussing AI-induced economic upheaval and national security risks. The question is no longer whether AI will transform society, but whether the country is prepared for the speed and scale of disruption.

We now know that Utah’s AI transparency bill, which would require developers to publish public safety plans for catastrophic risks and create child protection safeguards, is facing quiet opposition from the White House. In a letter, the administration argued that under its “one rulebook” guidance, AI policy should be handled at the federal level — not through state-by-state legislation. However, it is clear that state lawmakers will continue to work to protect children online and impose safeguards on AI.

Steinhauser commented on how the right thinks about AI safety and security, and which leaders are working to put America first.

Steinhauser joined War Room to discuss how AI could replace white-collar jobs soon. He also called for tighter export controls on American semiconductor chips.

In another appearance on War RoomSteinhauser warned that Big Tech’s AI acceleration without safeguards threatens jobs, concentrates power, and undermines human dignity.

Steinhauser spoke to America’s Future, a pro liberty group, about the development of advanced AI. He laid out its potential impacts on society, the economy, and the future of the United States.

Riki ParikhPolicy Director at The Alliance for Secure AIauthored an op-ed urging progressives to take on Big Tech. The piece was syndicated in dozens of other outlets across the country.

Steinhauser wrote an op-ed warning the public about AI-powered surveillance. He appealed to conservatives and progressives in the piece for Real Clear Politics.

The Alliance has kickstarted its Substack. Curated by the policy team, The Alliance AI Brief provides weekly insights into key developments in artificial intelligence policy.
